When you think about science, where is it taking place? In a laboratory? In a science centre? How about a doughnut shop?
With National Science Week well underway, events have already been happening in some peculiar locations around Australia. So far venues have included a toy shop, a distillery, an art gallery and a stadium – but there are still some truly unique and unusual places to come. You’re probably expecting the science of beer. While that will be on show, the real star of this event will be the Windara Reef and the oysters that come from there.

The vault of a museum
Go behind the scenes and venture into the vault of the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery. Filled with collections of animal specimens, you’ll be taken on a tour of part of the museum that’s usually closed to the public.

A doughnut shop
Come along to the Doughnut Department and check out the work of 6 researchers in the form of cool teeshirts! As well as that there will be walk up workshops, science trivia and of course, science-y doughnuts.

A lighthouse
Climb the steps of the striking Point Moore Lighthouse to find not only awesome views but to learn about the history of the building and some of the conservation happening in the area. Usually closed to the public, they’re opening their doors for National Science Week and International Lighthouse Lightship Weekend.
