Species Survival in Science Week

  • - (AEST)
  • SS Peter & Paul's Primary School
16 Beverley Street, Doncaster East VIC 3109, Australia

In celebration of Science Week, our school organises a special ‘Science Day’ where students are grouped into multi-age house teams to engage in a variety of hands-on activities throughout the day. These activities are designed to complement the students' ongoing exploration of Biological Science during their weekly STEM lessons. The primary aim of Science Day is to consolidate this knowledge and inspire our students to take an active role in their learning.

The day is carefully structured to ensure that each activity aligns with our overarching theme and learning objectives focusing on biological and sustainable science. To enhance the experience, we always invite a guest speaker to share their expertise. This year, our goal is to host a local veterinarian who can offer insights into the importance of caring for animals in our community.

Our planned activities include constructing habitats for local species in need, such as building a bee hotel using simple materials like glue, scrap wood, sticky tape, and recycled items. At the culmination of Science Day, students will showcase their creations during an open school assembly, allowing community members to admire their work and understand the reasoning behind each structure.
