A beached whale, a confused navigator, a ridiculous doctor... whatever could be the matter?

This National Science Week, MAGNT and Darwin Festival (DF) will partner for their third year to present Born in a Taxi’s The Whale's Tale. Featuring a 9-metre whale puppet, this outdoor interactive theatre show combines playful performance with an inspiring environmental message.

When a whale washes up on a beach and is discovered by a child, the whale's spirit embarks on a journey to find out what is wrong, with the help of one zany Dr Walrus. This beautiful performance highlights the plight of northern Australian whales and the threat of ocean pollution. There are links to real ocean clean-up opportunities in Darwin and the work of Larrakia Rangers in monitoring biodiversity in Darwin Harbour. The audience will leave with an appreciation of the impact of ocean pollution on marine creatures.

The show incorporates mentions of Melville, MAGNT’s Pygmy Blue Whale skeleton (on the wall of the Maritime Gallery). There's a similar story to this beached whale in the show!

A Whale's Tale aligns with the National Science Week in Schools theme of Species Survival – More than just Sustainability. It's a story to engage diverse local, interstate and international visitors. It's a fun day out for schools and families.
