9:30–10:30am Phage Therapy - Dr Ruby CY Lin, PhD

Very recently, ‘phage therapy’ has emerged as a viable alternative to antibiotics. First discovered in the early 20th century, it harnesses the superpower of phages which are viruses that specifically target and eliminate bacteria (precision medicine) and have an evolved capability to infect and destroy targeted bacteria while remaining harmless to humans.

Learn more about this amazing treatment already delivering lifesaving results from Adj Prof Ruby Lin with over 25 years of experience in life sciences, biotechnology and translational research. The One Health principle is actively contributing to areas such as agriculture, veterinary medicine, and environmental health. Ruby will discuss the synergy of Phage Bioprospecting, Biobanking, and Phage Therapy in the Era of Precision Medicine.

11:00am–12:00pm Cancer patients and sleep - Associate Professor Kristina Kairaitis

Discussing sleep quality in cancer survivors and explain how this can impact quality of life and longer-term cancer outcomes. By understanding how cancers result in poor sleep in patients, in particular breast cancer survivors, and how specific sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnoea may impact the biology of cancer such as melanoma, this talk will focus on why improving sleep in cancer patients as an important part of cancer management.
