The Man Who Invented Vegemite – Cyril’s Lab Launch

  • - (AEST)
  • Cyril Callister Museum
23 Neill Street, Beaufort VIC 3373, Australia

The Cyril Callister Foundation invites special guests and media to the official opening of Cyril's Lab. A new science space at Cyril Callister Museum.

Cyril’s Lab recreates the laboratory where Dr Callister and his team invented the iconic spread in 1923.

Built with a grant from Acciona Energia’s Waubra Wind Farm, the lab will open to small student groups (Year 6 and up). They will get involved with interactive science experiments using Vegemite.

The Cyril Callister Foundation wants to spread the story of Dr Callister and his invention to inspire young people to study science.

The foundation runs the museum and a scholarship to support youth from regional Australia through university.

Samuel Varjabedian was the inaugural recipient of the 2024 Cyril Callister Foundation scholarship. Samuel is a science student from Federation University, Ballarat, and has adapted experiments for use at Cyril’s Lab and in an education program that will tour schools. He will demonstrate an experiment, making Vegemite caviar, at the official opening.
