Visit the Making a Measurement exhibition this National Science Week to meet Sid, The Scientist, who is undertaking an artist's residency in the Yalagang room at the Bondi Pavillion.
Having been a working scientist, Sid is curious about what it means to measure; why we measure and the things we measure with.
The exhibition space will be open to the public on weekends, and where you're invited to visit, and interact with Sid's machine that looks like it might be measuring something, and other systems that explore measurement in science.
About the artist: Steven Durbach
Although South African, Australia has welcomed him and his family here more than a decade ago. Being here. In this Time. This place has moved him and shaped him. As a scientist he wants to measure these changes so he can see who he is. Now. Here. The beauty and depth of Australia and more locally the environs of Bondi have enmeshed in the person and artist he has evolved into.
He hopes to explore – as The Scientist, how - This Other - has informed what he is in the world. He will periodically open the space to the public and invite them to be part of this measuring – to play out the way we interact and evolve with each other. The artist has constructed and evolved measuring devices which explore and develop ideas around measurement. They are playful and philosophical at the same time and invite interaction.
