The Eyre Bird Observatory was established in 1977 by Birds, on the site of the Telegraph Station that was built in the 1890s.
The caretakers conduct daily bird observations and weekly counts along the nearby beach. There are special programs and courses as well as dune regeneration projects.
Bookings are essential and access is difficult. The observatory is located on the coast, about 30 km south of Cocklebiddy. The last 10 km of the access road past the lookout is not suitable for 2WD vehicles or trailers or caravans. A lift can be arranged with the caretakers for guests with a 2WD who are staying more than one night.
Admission and accomodation fees apply. Overnight guests need to bring their own linen. Meals are included in the accommodation fee.
