Naracoorte is a system of 26 limestone caves, and four of these are open to the public. The various caves were formed over half a million years ago and they are a significant site for fossil research.

The Caves are a World Heritage site, recognising the significance of the many fossil deposits, especially of the megafauna that died out 60 000 years ago. These fossils include Thylacoleo carnifex, the Marsupial Lion and Zygomaturus, a 500 kg marsupial that looked like a hippopotamus.

There is a licensed cafe, picnic grounds and barbeques. The caves are open from 9 am – 5 pm every day (except 25 December and days of catastrophic fire danger).

Entry to the park is free but fees apply for cave tours and camping.
