The Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens are located in the centre of Hobart and cover 14 hectares. The Gardens are home to over 6000 species, varieties and cultivars of plants comprised of a diverse range of species exotic to Australia and Tasmania as well as those that are indigenous to the state.

There is a conservatory, a formal Japanese Garden, heritage convict walls and the gardens also host the Community Food Garden that is regularly featured on Gardening Australia.

The Gardens are easily viewed over the course of a relaxed day and offer both a restaurant and cafe, as well as a Botanical Shop and visitor centre.

The Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens are open 8.00 am – 5.00 pm (April – September) and 8.00 am – 6.00 pm (October – March). Free admission.
