Take a bus into the heart of the mine, sharing roads with giant trucks to an internal lookout on the south eastern side of the Super Pit.
The Super Pit is 3.5 km long and over 600 m deep. The mine started as a number of underground mines that were joined up as an open cut in 1989. Production is about 19 tonnes of gold per year from 15 million tonnes of ore. The Caterpillar 793 haul trucks carry 240 tonnes of rock up with each load that they bring to the top of the pit for processing or disposal.
All participants must wear enclosed shoes, long sleeves and trousers. Children must be at least 4 years old.
The tour runs on the third Sunday of every month. The free tickets are available from 8.30 am on a first-in basis.
