This National Science Week, the BBC STEM Club and Science team will take our whole-of-school community on an S.O.S mission to Save all Our Species. Throughout the week, students will engage in STEAM activities including interactive pop-up displays, biodiversity workshops, and environmental quizzes.
Through these activities students will gain greater understanding and appreciation of the importance of protecting our natural world, and the significant role that we have as caretakers of our planet.  Pop-up STEAM displays will include ‘Just a drop in the Ocean’ and ‘Bee Good’ stalls, where students will discover how even the smallest species are essential to keep ecosystems healthy. They will examine plankton through microscopes and create native seed bombs. At the ‘Be Active’ stall students will become citizen scientists. The ‘Save all Our Species’ stall will highlight threats to Australian native species. Students will pot a eucalyptus or native plant to take home. The Junior STEM Club will also offer two STEAM workshops will include Wildlife Bridge building and Biodiversity Escape Room challenges, where student teams will apply their STEM skills to investigate and resolve environmental challenges. Through real-world STEM challenges, our students will gain a greater understanding and appreciation of the environmental issues that we face, and the technological and innovative solutions that are being developed and implemented to help manage and protect our natural world.
