Planting a native insectary and release of beneficial insects to then collect on going data on the population growth of beneficial insects for food crops in both the school orchard and horticulture precinct. The event during science week would include the planting of insectary plants to encourage beneficial insects populations and the release of beneficial insects into school Agricultural plot in particular the horticulture area and school orchard. The event will include local agronomists as guest speakers to discuss role of beneficial insects in Integrated Pest Management programs and its contextual relevance in our community. Following this event, students will collect and analyse data on the population of beneficial species and the impact this has on deterring pests. Being a small rural school, this event will create engagement with students from grades 7-12 and ensure on going learning, collection and analysis of data from students in grades 7-12 studying agricultural science, general biology, junior science and maths classes with the potential to extend into our year 5/6 transition program.
