Brisbane Soapbox Science 2024

  • - (AEST)
  • Sisters Green Queensland Museum Kurilpa
Grey Street and Melbourne Street, South Brisbane QLD 4101, Australia

Soapbox Science Brisbane 2024 is a free public engagement event which aims to inspire new generations of women scientists, challenge perceptions of what a scientist does and looks like, and encourage the public and wider community to engage with novel science.

For this event, 12 competitively-selected, diverse women will step onto soapboxes and bring their science to the streets of Brisbane. Our fabulous line-up includes scientists from all career stages, from Higher Research Degrees students, early and mid-career scientists, to Professors. The selected speakers are specialists in mathematics, molecular science, neuroscience, material science and nanotechnology, biomedical engineering, biotechnology, ecology, and genetics.

Soapbox Science Brisbane 2024 promotes and encourages interest in the areas of science, engineering, technology and innovation by delivering four outcomes:

(1) Increases the visibility of our speakers and their research in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics fields (STEM), to the wider public by delivering interactive presentations.

(2) Helps break down stereotypes about who is a scientist by featuring speakers from different backgrounds, ages, career stages and fields.

(3) Engages with people who might not otherwise encounter science by organising a free event, open to all, in a busy public thoroughfare.

(4) Engages and inspires young women and girls to study a science, engineering or technology field, by exposing them to successful women scientists who they can relate to as role models.

Join us at the Sisters Green Queensland Museum on Saturday August 10 from 10 AM - 1 PM to hear about the amazing science happening in Queensland and beyond!
