91 Southside Drive, Hillarys WA 6025, Australia

The Aquarium of Western Australia welcomes schools and education groups to celebrate National Science Week with us by booking the brand NEW full day program, Ecosystem Engineers.

Are there flowers under the sea? Yes! Seagrasses are the only flowering plants in the ocean and they craft a unique, nurturing habitat for baby sea creatures - acting as important engineers in the city of the sea.

Your students will discover more about the surprising and often overlooked world of seagrass and the animals that live in seagrass beds, before they become ecosystem engineers themselves using photosensitive paints to take part of AQWAs community art project.

Sustainability is central to this activity, as students discover that as Western Australian citizens, they are custodians to 7% of the world's seagrass meadows. On their journey they will learn more about initiatives in action that are restoring the seagrass beds of Cockburn Sound, WA.

The program is available to book Monday-Friday during National Science Week and suitable for all primary students in years PP-6, with content, activities and curriculum links tailored to suit your booked group. The year group/s you select in your booking (PP-2, 3-4 or 5-6) will dictate which themed talk and art activity is delivered on the day.

Fee includes AQWA entry and full day guided education program. Teachers free for up to a maximum of 1:5 students for Year PP-2 and 1:10 students for Year 3-6. Min. 25 students to book. Parking free.
