Imagine a world where scientists are using their skills to save an amazing animal from extinction! That’s exactly what we’re learning about at Eltham South Preschool during National Science Week with our exciting project, “Junior Conservation Crew: Science to Save the Tassie Devil.”

We’ve got a scientist joining us for some super cool STEM sessions. They’ll show us how science, like genetics and vaccines, is working to protect the Tasmanian Devils from a nasty disease called Facial Tumour Disease. Over three days, you’ll get to learn all about DNA and how it helps keep living things alive and healthy.

Our friends from Wildlife Explorers will be there too! They’ll bring along some native animals and lead fun activities to help you understand why these creatures are so important. Our students get to see and maybe even touch some real animals while learning how to be a wildlife hero!

Here’s what we have planned:

  1. Presentation - Science to Save the Tassie Devil

  2. Block Coding to Represent DNA

  3. Art Activities - Copy the DNA Code

  4. Sponge Painting - Create Your Own DNA Code

  5. Wildlife Encounters - The Importance of Native Wildlife

This project is extra special because it’s the first time a scientist will lead a session at our preschool. We’re so excited to show how science is not only important but also super fun!

Our students will get to see themselves as a future scientist, learning how science can solve real problems and make a huge difference in the world. Plus, it will inspire them to keep exploring and discovering new things as they grow up.
