70-102 Flinders Street, Townsville QLD 4810, Australia

Aimed at 3-6-year-olds, Little Learners: Storytime Science is a new hands-on science and literacy program that combines book readings with hands-on STEM activities.

Exploring big concepts, our museum facilitators will guide children on an interactive journey. Allowing them to take part in experiments and crafts that relate to the characters or themes in the book. For example, after reading Rebecca Young's The Speedy Sloth, children create a climbing sloth, rate animals from the fastest to the slowest, and see what it might be like hanging upside down all day like a sloth, and more. Or, after reading April and Jeff Sayre's One is a Snail. Ten is a Crab, children use a magnifying lens to count the number of feet on different animals preserved in resin. Draw an imaginary animal while throwing a die to determine how many body parts it will have, and more.

Little Learners: Storytime Science is free. Spaces are limited, however no bookings are required.

Families are encouraged to arrive at 9:45 am for a 10 am start.
