This project involves students investigating how cress seeds respond to different environmental conditions over two weeks. The aim is to engage students in scientific inquiry, teamwork, and data analysis, culminating in a final presentation during National Science Week.

In Week 1, students are introduced to plant biology and cress seeds, learning about plant needs such as light, water, nutrients, and temperature. They brainstorm environmental variables, focusing on light and dark conditions, and write brief proposals, including hypotheses and experimental procedures. Students prepare materials, set up their experiments, and plant the cress seeds. Daily observations of plant growth and health are recorded.

In Week 2, students continue their observations and data recording. A midweek check-in allows for adjustments and preliminary data analysis. Basic data analysis techniques such as averages and graphs are introduced, and students create visual representations of their findings. They interpret the data, compare results with their hypotheses, and write conclusions.

Students then prepare their presentations, creating outlines and designing slides or posters. They practice their presentations in front of peers, receive feedback, and make final adjustments, focusing on public speaking skills and handling Q&A sessions.

Experiment variables include light conditions (sunlight vs. dark) and consistent soil types. Methods involve consistent watering, daily measurements of plant height, and observations of leaf colour and health. Data analysis includes calculating averages and creating graphs.

Expected outcomes include practical application of the scientific method, understanding the impact of light on plant growth, developing teamwork and critical thinking skills, and improving communication abilities through presentations.
