Online Educator Workshop – Empowering children through citizen science with Little Scientists

  • - (AEST)

Help children become little citizen scientists this National Science Week!

This 2-hour online workshop will help early childhood educators to do citizen science in the classroom. Explore the National Science Week 2024 school theme of Species Survival - More than just sustainability in a positive and age-appropriate way. We’ve chosen to look at this year’s theme through the lens of citizen science, with children as powerful agents of change.

Citizen science provides meaningful opportunities for children. They can collect data, run experiments and document their findings. Afterwards, they can share reports with local community and environmental groups.

In this online two-hour workshop, early childhood teachers and educators will learn how to introduce children to the world of citizen science. Promote environmental awareness, and design simple and engaging citizen science projects. Gain practical ideas, like monitoring local waterways and wildlife, tracking weather patterns and hosting nature scavenger hunts.

Empower children to lead their own explorations and make a positive impact on the world around them.

About Little Scientists

Little Scientists is a not-for-profit initiative supported by the Australian Government. Our mission is to champion inquiry-based STEM — Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics — education for all young children in Australia. We do this by empowering early childhood educators and early primary teachers with the STEM skills and pedagogy to embed rich STEM learning into their teaching practices.
