Remembering the Christmas Island Pipistrelle Bat

  • - (AWST)

Join the Conservation Council of WA and the WA Bat Network for an evening dedicated to learning. Learn about and remember the endemic and once-common Christmas Island Pipistrelle bat. This is an important story with lessons that can help us better protect species across the world.

Although the focus will be on the Christmas Island Pipistrelle, the talk will also cover a bit about the Critically Endangered Christmas Island Flying Fox. Some of the 42 bat species found in Western Australia and the nature marathon fundraiser.

About the speaker: Kelly is the Citizen Science Program Manager at the Conservation Council of WA, is the Co-founder of the WA Bat Network and First Vice President of the Australasian Bat Society. She'll be sharing stories from some amazing bat researchers who have or are working on Christmas Island, as well as some of her work with bats in WA.

To mark 15 years since the extinction of the Christmas Island Pipistrelle Kelly will be running a marathon on the island. She'll be using the run as an opportunity to share learnings from the pipistrelle's story. Raise money to help protect nature and biodiversity.
