Safeguarding Species with Science at Leinster Community School

  • From
  • Leinster Community School
1 Gledden Drive, Leinster WA 6437, Australia

Leinster Community School will be honouring National Science Week by offering year 1-12 students a range of hands-on, exciting science and STEM based activities. The 'Safeguarding Species with Science' program will be offered at lunch times across 5 days and will give students the opportunity to choose from at least 5 different activities.

The biology themed session will include looking at insects and their adaptations under the microscope. Adaptations will be further explored during a physics challenge where students have to create a parachute for an egg that is inspired by animal features. To build on students' knowledge of chemistry, they will be given the opportunity to collect and analyse water samples. This will help the local community to know if water quality is an issue for the local wildlife. Students will be introduced to environmental science and sustainable practices by creating their own beeswax wraps.

This 'Safeguarding Species with Science' program will focus on removing barriers to science by showing students that anyone can do science and be a scientist.
