  • - (AWST)
  • Augusta Community Resource Centre
66 Allnutt Terrace, Augusta WA 6290, Australia

Humans have a love of nature imprinted in our DNA. Now researchers are learning how nature can help solve our greatest problems. In the first of three Sunday afternoon talks on bio-inspiration, local inventor Jay Harman will share how species in our region inspired breakthrough solutions.  Francesca Bertone will share practical ways that we can bring biomimicry and biophilia (the benefits of nature) indoors, including how to run our homes and businesses sustainably like a jarrah forest

Jay Harman has successfully commercialized numerous award-winning products and has been recognized by the US, Japanese, and Korean Societies of Mechanical Engineers for his contributions to the field of fluid dynamics. Jay’s work on nature-inspired design is featured in many documentaries, including King Charles III’s film, Harmony. Along with his role as CEO of engineering firm PAX Scientific, he is a published author and holds more than 25 patents.

Francesca Bertone leads the non-profit Nature of Hope, which promotes biomimicry education. As Chief Operating Officer for PAX Scientific, Francesca has overseen the development of many bio-inspired projects.  She started her career in the US public school system as a teacher, vice principal, and school board member.
