Felt making is one of the oldest methods of textile production and is still used today to create clothing, bags, crafts and artwork.
This National Science Week, join our workshop to share in the rich science and history of felt making.
Wet Felting uses temperature, water, soap and agitation to bind wool fibres together. This process is used to produce a flat piece of fabric. While getting hands-on with felt making, we'll explore the science behind this fascinating process. Discover the curious nature of sheep's wool, how it turns into felt and why the lanolin content is important. Learn how modern techniques compare to medieval processes.
