Stories in the Sky – NT Science Week Remote Schools Project

There’s something special coming to schools across the Northern Territory for National Science Week in 2024. This event is brought to you by Inspired NT, Power and Water, the CDU Radicle Science and Technology Engagement Centre and aims to spark scientific curiosity and wonder for our magnificent night skies.

With Stories in the Sky, your classroom will be transformed into a celestial sensory experience with learning kits. Students will be immersed in a world of stars as an audio guide takes them through the science and significance of stars and space. Embark on a guided journey through the physics and chemistry of space and learn how cultures around the world have been guided by the stars for millennia. Schools are encouraged to integrate cultural perspectives with the science of space, enhancing student understanding and appreciation of these big concepts.

Inspired by the experience, students then use their learnings to create a new star design using the power of the sun, for inclusion in an augmented reality gallery!

Key Details:

Audience: NT schools (priority for remote schools)

Locations: Your School!

Content: science, culture, art

Kit Includes: Lesson plan, Southern Sky star projector, audio guide, star maps, sun print materials

Kits will be distributed in July for activities during National Science Week (August 10-18).
